History Of Manga

History Of Manga:

Manga literally means "Random Pictures" "Man" means Random and "Ga" means pictures. It all started in the late 1800s. Suzuki Kankei's "Mankaku zuihitsu" (1771) started the manga style. Osamu Tezuka iz who made it soo popular in Japan. He is reffered to as the father of manga by some manga maniacs like me lol. In 1945 the manga craze really began.

Some types of manga:

  • Alternative
  • Gegika (Drama Pictures)
  • La novelle manga (Japanese artistic movement)
  • Semi-Alternative
  • Battling Companion (Not an official name)
  • Doujinshi
  • Maho shojo (Magic Girl)
  • Robot/ Mecha

Your Work Area

Your Work Area:

A desk: This is where you will do all your arkwork. A tip is to have a clear desk so you aren't looking at a messy pile of junk and so you have room for your elbows.

A Comfortable Chair: This is good for your posture and so that you can draw and be happy because you aren't uncomfortable.

Where to Put Your Manga: If you are allowed pin it to your wall if possible put your best on your workarea high right where you can see it. This will give you motivation to keep drawing.

For Inspiration: Read a few manga comics and look at some other manga and anime. I think that watching anime also helps you get motivation.

Why Draw Manga: If you like the style of art then of corse you don't have to draw it and you can still admire it but if you want to draw better and learn how to draw the particular style of art then I suggest you just practise and don't be afraid just to mess around with some scribbly practise drawings.

Materials

Materials:

  1. HB pencil
  2. Fine Liner
  3. Paper
  4. A surface
  5. A comic (optional(for inspiration))
  6. A comfortable chair
  7. Manga pictures (To make you more eager to draw)

I hope this helps you. Bye!

REMEMBER:

All artists started off somewhere even the greatest artists have had days where they struggle with drawing. I sometimes get mental blocks and can't draw. It isn't permanent but with hard practise and high inspirational sources you can pull yourself out of the mental block.

Stuck on ideas?

If you are stuck on ideas it doesn't hurt to get a little bit of inspiration from your favourite anime style art. For example I liked the front of a comic that I had seen and I then decided to draw it. I copied the face, changed the hair and gave the picture a body and it has become one of my favourite pictures of mine. If you do get inspired by a peice of artwork then you can change it a bit to fit what you would like the picture to look like. If the picture is good but you don't like the hairstyle then you can change the hair. Then it makes your art different from the one that you were inspired by.

If you are stuck on ideas and don't like to use inspiration of someone else's artwork then just take some of your own experiences and let them help you to draw what you like to see. For example if a young couple walks past and you think that they look really sweet together then you can remember how happy they looked and use it to inspire your artwork to have that same happiness to it.

That is all the advice I can really give seeings that is all I know on being inspired. Also go on youtube and search for "Drawing anime" and watch some of the videos of people drawing anime art. It helped me to see how to draw hair easier and draw eyes.

Additional tips

Always challenge yourself with your drawing.  I draw things that may not appeal to me as much as others. My way is by going on gaia online and doing art requests. Sometimes I find a request that I usually wouldn't draw but the challenge is what makes it worthwile.

If you are low on inspiration then search google images and find a picture you like. I sometimes copy aspects of a picture like the pose or the face but I always change something so that it is unique.

If I am depressed and don't feel like drawing then what I do is I make myself some tea or listen to my favourite music to cheer me up. The trick is to do something to cheer you up and if you still don't feel like drawing then give it a day or two.

If you are stuck on ideas then just start to draw shapes like circles and you may gradually develop an image. Also if you don't know any poses then you can enter a site where models pose and then you can copy the pose. If you see a photo or drawing that appeals to you then just get out a pencil and some paper and start sketching. It takes practise to get great at art and I am still developing my skills. I keep a folder with my artwork and sort it into years. I have 2006, 2007 and now 2008. I only started to get excited about my art 2 years ago and I can already see the progress.

To get better you should search the internet for manga tutorials or buy books to teach you. Be careful what information the books give because I have bought a few books that have conflicted with what the majority were saying. I have 11 manga books and they have all helped me to develop my skills.

Good things take time

Remember that good things take time. Don't rush artwork and be happy while you draw. If you rush it or don't enjoy it then what is the point?
